WhatsApp’s Snapchat-like feature: Now add pictures & videos in your ‘status update’

WhatsApp is upgrading its Status feature and according to the latest leaked images, the new features looks very similar to Snapchat Stories. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been trying to revamp the feature since a long time now.

WhatsApp is upgrading its Status feature and according to the latest leaked images, the new features looks very similar to Snapchat Stories. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been trying to revamp the feature since a long time now. The reports came in November 2016. WhatsApp, in order to stay relevant, has been bringing some amazing new features in its messaging app. Meanwhile, WABetaInfo tweeted, the text area for ‘Status’ option on the iOS beta app has been upgraded, and now rumours have surfaced about how the user will be able to share videos and photos in the Status with their contacts. The pictures and videos will probably disappear after a day.
WABetaInfo tweeted: “Status introduction text updated in WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.17.4+.” It also posted a screenshot of how the new ‘Status’ feature is reflected. This new feature has been a long time coming. Users will be able to add pictures videos and messages on photos. Users will also be able to check who among your contacts saw your Status updates. It is very similar to Snapchat and Instagram functionalities. The Status updates will also be able to forward the status updates to your friends.

According to the leaked image by WABetaInfo, the new feature has a plus sign icon inside a broken circular outline. WABetaInfo says that the WhatsApp Status can be made private, and there’s an option for changing the privacy settings as well. With the rise of Snapchat and its Stories feature, from Instagram to Facebook, and WhatsApp is the latest to clone it.
Facebook has gone all out to kill Snapchat by copying it, as, after Instagram, it is expected that WhatsApp will unveil this new feature very soon. Even Facebook, for its own app, has been testing some camera features which will let you use live face filters, similar to Snapchat. Instagram is not far behind as people have accepted the new feature and with more than 300 million daily active users as compared to Snapchat’s half the number, it sure will pose a big threat to the latter. WhatsApp’s video calling feature will also be launched soon, as reportedly it has gone live on Android beta.
